Great Grandma S

Posted by J:

I have pondered what to say in regards to the passing away of my great grandma S.  I am glad to hear that in her funeral many people expressed the fond memories they had for grandma.  The joy and laughter she brought into their lives.  I can't think of a better way to honor her than by doing the same.

I remember visiting grandma at Valley Furniture when she worked at the one on Main Street in Gunnison.  She would let us play with the toys they had displayed.

I remember all the stories of her knitting assignments, and her sewing machine right next to the side back door of the old Victorian house.

I remember the magnifying glass she used to read.

I remember walking into her house with the television set turned on really loud.

I remember visiting grandma every day after the 8th grade football practice; she would let me get an ice cream from the freezer upstairs.

I remember all the Thanksgiving's and Christmases Eve's at her house.  It was nice to have a place where all the family could gather and enjoy one another.  I loved sliding on the ballroom floor.

I remember all the funny phrases she would say: How's my boy? My Gads; Well, hell's bells.

I remember telling grandma about my mission and listening to her talk to me about the time she visited Bolivia.  Every time I visited her before my mission, she would tell me the same story of all the different kinds and colors of potatoes in Bolivia and how they gave money for the building of the temple.

I remember Grandma attending my high school graduation, my college graduation, my sealing, the blessing of my daughter, etc.  Any major event or accomplishment in my life, she was there.

I remember her holding my daughter, and how well mannered Zuri was with her (most of the time).

I remember how she used to joke about not being able to see, walk, or hear.

There are so many things I remember about Grandma.  I can't recall a time when I didn't see her smile or laugh.  I can't recall a time when she was cross or short with someone.  I may have known her during her golden years, but the time I had with her was just that, golden.

She is one of the finest examples of a matriarch on this earth.  She brings honor and integrity to the word Grandma.  I believe everyone in the family has been blessed by her long life and sharpness of mind.  I am proud to be her posterity and grateful for the eternal relationship I was able to build with her while she was with us.

I love you Grandma!  You will be missed!

J's great grandma passed away June 9th.  I was grateful to have had the chance to get to know her.  She was always traveling or had plans to travel.  She had many interesting stories and always made you feel so good to be around her.

Her memory was impeccable.  I remember the second time I met her, I was expecting to have to remind her who I was, but she not only remembered me, she remembered what we had talked about and little details.  She was always funny--saying she can't see, can't hear, and can't walk, but at least she has her health and her mind.

She was an amazing woman and I am glad to have known her and be part of her family.
