Second week of school and we ALL get sick. Not just a little sick. We aren't sure who it started with, Kai or J, but either way, we have been unofficially quarantined in our house since Tuesday.
In March, Kai had the bronch/ABR/ear cleaning. Since then, he has suffered ear infection after ear infection. Each time the doctor is convinced that we never really cleared the original ear infection, so the poor kid gets put on a stronger antibiotic.
A couple weeks ago, we had trach/vent clinic, and the ENT noted another ear infection. It didn't surprise us because Kai was once again fussy, fussy, fussy. He told us to use a vinegar/water mix and put it in his ears to see if that would clear it up. Four days later, Kai's running a pretty high fever and is really sensitive to the touch. So, back onto antibiotics he went.
J started not feeling well, severe sore throat that went right up into his ears. He went in to the doctor and they did some tests, but couldn't find anything conclusive other than a "virus," so they gave him some antibiotics and sent him home.
A few days after that, I started to get a sore throat, and it felt as though I had an eyelash in my eye. I played around with my eye to see if I could see it, but then figured it must be my contact because they were getting old. I threw out my contact and put a new one in. My eye felt fine the rest of the day, so I thought that must be it. The next morning, my eyes were bright red and swollen, and so was my throat.
When River woke up, she was feverish and had a red eye as well. Oh crap. Did we somehow get pink eye? J, who was still not feeling the best, stayed home from work and took River in to the doctor. The doctor confirmed, pink eye and an ear infection. Great. So, I went in. The doctor told me I have pink eye and tonsillitis. Fun. Later that evening, Zuri's eye is starting to look a little red. Now she's got it.
I've never had pink eye before, and when it comes to being sick, I'm the first to admit, I'm a pansy. It's really a good thing I don't get sick often. I feel like death. When I breathe, my throat hurts; when I blink, my eyes hurt. My eyeballs are literally swollen. If I keep them closed, they itch and get all crusty and glued shut. My whole body is sensitive to the touch and feels like I just went through a severe work out....and I can't just rest. I still have to take care of the kids, who, remember, are also sick and feeling like crap. Fussy, fussy, fussy.
J has been great helping out, but he still has to work. Luckily, Kai was already on antibiotics and hasn't picked up the other stuff. Today he was actually smiling and laughing, so he is definitely feeling better.
When it rains, it pours. To top our week off, I discovered ants in our house. We have a pest control company spray quarterly to keep the bugs away. They sprayed the foundation last week, and since then we have also changed Kai's food to a stronger smelling food. I think the combination of Kai's new food and the outside spray pushed the ants inside and all over Jeremy's stuff. They were coming in through the wall outlet!!! (Thanks to the shoddy craftmanship of the previous owners). Luckily, our pest control company offers free reservices, and they sprayed inside as well as setting out ant bait to kill the queen/colony. They said that it will take between five to ten days for the ants to completely disappear.
Yuck. If there's one thing that I cannot stand, it's bugs in my house. That first night I discovered the ants, I had nightmares all night long about ants crawling all over me and being impossible to eradicate from my house. Thankfully, most of the ants are already gone. We have Kai's bed and everything pulled away from the wall until we know they are completely gone.
I can't wait to say adios! to this week and start fresh and healthy. Here's hoping!

Yellowstone in June: The Landscape
I saved the landscape pictures for last, because it's the my favorite part--the amazing beauty of the land. Lots and lots of pictures of majestic Yellowstone--and pictures really don't capture the awe and wonder of the place. Between the three adults, we had quite a few pictures. I narrowed it down to my top 150 (including the other two posts--so don't worry, there aren't that many pictures--but beware, there are quite a few). Enjoy!
Dragon's Mouth Spring--so named because of the rumbling and the spray of water that comes out. I think the steam looks as though it could be from a dragon's nostrils as it slumbers.
Random spots of white in the grass--although I know it's not, it sure looks spray painted
Regrowth after the fire. The Grand Tetons
