Why I love Fridays

Friday is now my favorite day of the week, but not because of the reason you think.  Earlier this summer I got a nook from Barnes and Noble--it's an e-reader.  On this gadget I can store over 1,500 e-books on the 2 GB memory.  I can add music and audio books and even surf the web.  I can add additional storage with a micro SD card.  Right now I have 59 e-books on my nook and most of them were free.  Every Friday, Barnes and Noble has what they call "free Friday," where they either highlight a book which has recently become free or offer a book free for a limited time.  The week before last, they offered two titles for the free Friday promo.  The books are generally from authors who have made The New York Times bestselling list.  They are also running another Friday promo for the summer, where they are offering twelve of their classics for free.  So, in essence, on Fridays I can conceivably get thirteen books for free.  How awesome is that?  Not to mention the vast library of free books that Barnes and Noble already provides.  E-books are also (in general) cheaper than printed books because there are no printing costs.

Every business day they highlight a book--whether it is a new author or a new book coming out.  Oftentimes they will offer either the book or one of the books from that author at a discounted rate.  Two days ago the featured book went for $0.79.  By Monday it will go back up to full price.  I have been introduced to authors and a wide variety of books that I otherwise would have never even given a second thought.

The whole reason I got the nook was because due to an unforeseen event, I was without a vehicle for most of the summer.  There are no bus routes near our apartment and the streets are not pedestrian friendly, which means that I have been limited to the apartment, and there is only so much time you can spend at the pool with a two-year old in the sun and heat.  During the time that I did have the car, I discovered the nook at the Barnes and Noble at the Mall of Georgia.  I did some extensive research on e-readers and ultimately decided on the nook because it supports open format as well as Barnes and Noble content (whereas with the Kindle, you are limited to Amazon content).  J, knowing how much I wanted one, and being the sweet husband that he is, got one for me!  I have loved the nook--absolutely.  For any of you wanting to know what to get me for my birthday (*hint hint*), a Barnes and Noble gift card would be the ultimate gift!
