Preschool

DSC02294
Monday Zuri started preschool.  She is in a brand new building and it wasn't completed on time, so she had to wait two weeks to start.  She was so excited to go to preschool and see all her "friends."  It was all she talked about.

My mom is taking her to school and I will pick her up.  We have arranged it so because her preschool is in Riverton (about half an hour drive--and don't even get me started on that subject).  There are no buses, so I need to load up and haul Kai with me.

Zuri was fine when she got to school yesterday, but then one of the kids in her class was crying and it made her nervous.  My mom got her interested in a puzzle, and that calmed her to the point where my mom could leave.

When I picked her up, she was so excited to see me!  She was ready to go and kept pulling me toward the door.  When I asked her if she had a good time, she told me that she "got scared."

Her teacher told me she did really well until about half an hour before class ended.  She got really nervous and clung to her teacher.  I asked Zuri what she was so scared about, and she said a boy scared her.  When I told her it will be better tomorrow, she said she didn't want to go to school tomorrow!  Luckily, by the time she went to bed, she was okay with going to school in the morning.

This morning, she was even more nervous and threw a little tantrum when my mom got here.  She was a little more clingy with my mom when they got to school, but soon became interested in a puzzle.  When I picked her up, she was a bit more social and telling all her friends that she will see them tomorrow.  Progress!  Her teacher said that she had a short period where she got nervous, but otherwise had a good day, and mentioned how well behaved and advanced she is!  :-)

  2. How was the first week for her?

I didn't go to preschool/nursery school when I was small, so I don't know much about it.

What does she have in her backpack? Her lunch? Many of the kids bring their lunch in Japan. Some of their mothers make very artistic lunch for the kids. Kids look forward to opening their lunch box.

Of course, some preschools and nursery schools have their school lunch like elementary schools and junior high schools. So mothers don't have to make their lunch.

There are some of the pictures. http://image.search.yahoo.co.jp/search?ei=UTF-8&fr=top_ga1_sa&p=%E3%82%AD%E3%83%A3%E3%83%A9%E5%BC%81

  3. She had an okay first week of school. She got scared each day by the kids who had anxiety leaving their parents, but otherwise she did well. Her teacher keeps commenting on how well behaved and advanced she is. The school provides breakfast and lunch for her, so I don't need to worry about that, however, it has been hard for me not knowing how much she is really eating throughout the day--that has been the hardest part for me. In her backpack is an extra pair of clothes. They require the children to have an extra pair of clothes for accidents, spills, etc.
